Alex MacleanHALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA (March 10, 2014) – Alex MacLean, owner of East Coast Lifestyle Clothing Incorporated and full-time student at Acadia University, has been named 2014 Student Entrepreneur Regional Champion for Atlantic Canada by this country’s largest student leadership development organization, Enactus Canada, and proud program supporter, the John Dobson Foundation, as part of the Student Entrepreneur National Competition.

Alex received the title of Student Entrepreneur Regional Champion after beating out three other student entrepreneurs from across Atlantic Canada at the Enactus Canada Regional Exposition on March 7 in Halifax.

A panel of local entrepreneurs and business leaders voted Alex regional champion for his accomplishments with his brand, East Coast Lifestyle, which started as a classroom project with the goal of selling 30 hoodies and after 10 months in operation has sold over 250,000 products.

East Coast Lifestyle has exploded in popularity across Atlantic Canada –and the world, being worn by over 60 international celebrities including Sidney Crosby, Classified, Nathan MacKinnon and Kim Coates. Not one to stand aside while others struggle, Alex has shared his success by giving back to homeless shelters and organizations for disabled children in his community.

“Alex embodies the entrepreneurial spirit that built this country,” said Enactus Canada president Nicole Almond. “He has not only built a business, he has built a brand that people really connect with and there is unlimited potential for further growth.”

Alex will compete against five other Student Entrepreneur Regional Champions from across Canada for the national title at the 2014 Enactus Canada National Exposition in Calgary, Alberta taking place April 28-30. The National Champion will receive a $10,000 cash prize and take home the John Dobson Cup.
