(CALGARY) 2 March 2018 – By the age of 12, Michelle Warren was already a leader. As a child of deaf parents, she began teaching sign language to families with hearing-impaired children. She continues to do so today, in addition to serving as the VP, Operations for BCIT’s Enactus team, leading six project managers.

Abbey Jones has played an instrumental role helping her Enactus team launch five new community empowerment projects this year alone. She also led her team’s effort to provide financial education to 6,000 primary-school students across Canada.

Warren, student at the British Columbia Institute of Technology, and Jones, student at Okanagan College, BC, each received the 2018 HSBC Woman Leader of Tomorrow award for Western Canada from Canada’s largest experiential learning platform, Enactus Canada, and HSBC Bank Canada. The award presentation took place at the 2018 Enactus Canada Regional Exposition held March 1 in Calgary.

“By encouraging and empowering young women to take on leadership roles, we can drive future innovation and diversity in our businesses and communities,” said Nicole Almond, President of Enactus Canada, a national charity. “We are proud to work with partners who recognize and encourage emerging female leaders across Canada.”

The HSBC Woman Leader of Tomorrow award is designed to recognize, celebrate and honour female university and college students – on a regional and national level – who exemplify success and inspire their peers, community and country through entrepreneurial leadership. The program has been running for seven years, with support from HSBC Bank Canada. The six regional award winners will also be paired with an HSBC mentor.

Michelle Warren and Abbey Jones are two of six regional award winners from across Canada who will travel to Toronto in May to attend the 2018 Enactus Canada National Exposition with the hopes of being named the national 2018 HSBC Woman Leader of Tomorrow.

Additionally, Warren and Jones, along with the top 50 award applicants from across the country will also be invited to attend the exclusive HSBC Women’s Leadership Forum at the 2018 Enactus Canada National Exposition. The annual forum will unite top female leaders to encourage open dialogue, build leadership aptitude, and establish connections among generations of strong female leaders.
