(TORONTO) May 12, 2022Students at Lambton College have been named the 2022 Scotiabank Climate Action Challenge National Champion. The team was selected by Canada’s largest experiential learning platform, Enactus Canada, and program supporter Scotiabank.

Project One Circle aims to address food security concerns in First Nations communities by implementing greenhouses, aquaponics facilities, and food forests. The project has created a new source of revenue and sustainable food source for over 7,000 people and is on track to save over 2.4 million litres of water and divert 700 metric tonnes of GHG emissions in the next 12 months.

“Enactus students embrace the reality that we all have a part to play when it comes to climate change,” said Nicole Almond, President of Enactus Canada. “Thanks to their efforts, we can enjoy a cleaner tomorrow.”

“We all have an important role to play in the transition to a low-carbon, more resilient and prosperous future,” said Maria Saros, Vice President and Global Head Social Impact at Scotiabank. “The efforts of the Enactus Lambton team demonstrate the importance of climate action, empowerment and positive change from Canada’s future leaders. Scotiabank is impressed by all of the submissions, and especially proud of everything Enactus Lambton has accomplished. We know this is only the beginning of the incredible things they will continue to achieve in this important space.”
