Student entrepreneur team will represent Canada at Enactus World Cup 2018 in San Jose, California
(TORONTO) 17 May 2018: – Lambton College students who are empowering farmers in Zambia through their project, Hippy Peanut Butter, have been named the 2018 Enactus National Champion by the country’s largest experiential learning platform, Enactus Canada, and a 60 person judging panel comprised of top Canadian CEOs, for their ability to enable social, environmental and economic progress through entrepreneurial action.
Hippy Peanut Butter has provided local farmers with access to a new peanut butter production facility and a sellable product that helps combat malnutrition in the Zambian community. Enactus Lambton’s Hippy Peanut Butter has helped Zambian farmers earn $6,000 per hectare and thanks to a new partnership with a local grocery chain, the project will scale to include over 100 more farmers.
“Lambton College has a lot to be proud of! Leveraging their education, compassion for others and hard work, these students have had a profound impact on the Zambian community.” said Nicole Almond, Enactus Canada president. “Congratulations on today’s victory and good luck at the Enactus World Cup!”
Enactus Lambton College competed against 67 other post-secondary institutions in three rounds of live presentation-based competition. Each team had 17 minutes to showcase how their entrepreneurial projects advance the social, economic and environmental health of communities, create new career opportunities, spark business innovation and change lives.
The National Champion will now advance to represent Canada at the Enactus World Cup taking place in San Jose, California October 9-11, 2018.
As a leading Enactus and Canadian youth proponent, Tim Hortons proudly hosted the Final Round of Competition, and awarded Enactus Lambton College with the honourable ‘Tim Hortons Cup’.
More than 1,500 delegates including the country’s brightest university and college students, academic professionals and top business leaders witnessed the crowning of the National Champion at the 2018 Enactus Canada National Exposition held in Toronto. The three-day event supports entrepreneurial action for social impact through competition, recognition and education.
