HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA (March 10, 2014) – Alex Stead, owner of Alex Stead Photography and full-time student at Memorial University of Newfoundland, has been named 2014 Student Entrepreneur Regional Champion for Atlantic Canada by this country’s largest student leadership development organization, Enactus Canada, and proud program supporter, the John Dobson Foundation, as part of the Student Entrepreneur National Competition.
Alex received the title of Student Entrepreneur Regional Champion after beating out three other student entrepreneurs from across Atlantic Canada at the Enactus Canada Regional Exposition on March 7 in Halifax.
A panel of local entrepreneurs and business leaders voted Alex regional champion for her passion for her business and her ability to turn her art into an enterprise.
Alex Stead Photography provides high-end photography services for weddings, families and graduations in Newfoundland, but Alex can make memories as well as capture them. While looking through her own family photos and finding none of her and her mom, Alex wanted to make sure other children would have such mementos so she offered a full day, pro bono portraits session to single moms and their kids.
“Alex has a big heart and a sharp business mind,” said Enactus Canada president Nicole Almond. “When you can combine an entrepreneurial spirit with a social conscious, you have found a very special entrepreneur.”
Alex will compete against five other Student Entrepreneur Regional Champions from across Canada for the national title at the 2014 Enactus Canada National Exposition in Calgary, Alberta taking place April 28-30. The National Champion will receive a $10,000 cash prize and take home the John Dobson Cup.
