The Enactus team was recognized nationally for improving their campus community using Samsung technology
(TORONTO) May 10, 2022: A group of students from Mount Allison University was awarded the 2022 Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Challenge Best Project title at the 2022 Enactus Canada National Exposition Opening Ceremony today in recognition of their innovative solution, Project Enviroot.
The Enactus Mount Allison team created Project Enviroot to address the campus’ orange peel waste problem. With plans to leverage Samsung technology to dry out discarded orange peels, they blend the peels and mix it with an adhesive, resulting in a sustainable, non-toxic solution that can be used to replace all the softboards on their campus.
The Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Challenge combines the power of Samsung technology with the power of Enactus teams, to develop viable solutions to a specific economic, social and/or environmental need, such as education; sustainability; diversity, equality and inclusion; mental health.
“We’ve been partnering with Enactus to host the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Challenge since 2018, and each year, we’re blown away by the level of skill displayed by the students in leveraging technology to drive positive change in our communities. It’s clear what an important role technology plays in student learning, and we’re pleased to continue to empower future generations with the tools they need to achieve their fullest potential,” said Jennifer Groh, Senior Director of Corporate Marketing and Citizenship, Samsung Canada.
Following their win, the team plans to work with local businesses to promote and expand the applications of their new, sustainable product.
Each year, the Enactus Canada National Exposition unites hundreds of delegates including the country’s brightest university and college students, academic professionals and top Canadian CEOs to enable progress by supporting entrepreneurial action through competition, recognition and education.
