MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO (March 14, 2016) – Ben Canning, owner of Farmium and student at Ryerson University, has been named Central Canada’s 2016 Student Entrepreneur Regional Champion. Regional Champions in Central Canada were named by this country’s largest student leadership development organization, Enactus Canada, and proud program supporter, the John Dobson Foundation as part of the Student Entrepreneur National Competition.
Canning’s company, Farmium, is dedicated to providing food security solutions by building and maintaining automated green roofs using a machine learning algorithm and wireless nodes. They offer design, installation and maintenance for both residential and commercial buildings.
Canning received the title of Student Entrepreneur Regional Champion because he is tackling food security issues through an innovative business that is garnering interest from organizations across the GTA.
This title allows Canning to showcase his business and personal accomplishments on the national stage at the Enactus Canada National Exposition in Toronto on May 3, 2016, where he will compete for the title of Student Entrepreneur National Champion.
Canning will now compete against five other Student Entrepreneur Regional Champions from across Canada for the national title, a $10,000 cash prize and the John Dobson Cup.
