Halifax, NS (March 1, 2013) – Stephanie Gill, student at the Saint Mary’s University, received the 2013 HSBC Woman Leader of Tomorrow Award for Atlantic Canada from national charitable organization Enactus Canada and proud sponsor HSBC Bank Canada. The award presentation took place at the 2013 Enactus Canada Regional Exposition on March 1 in Halifax.
Fueled by a desire to tackle social issues that impact girls, Gill led her Enactus Saint Mary’s team to expand their community development project, which raises awareness about social issues impacting young females. While empowering girls and teaching them tangible skills, Gill has also led her team to partner with two national organizations and obtain $2,000 in funding for her program.
“At HSBC we believe that the strongest leaders are developed over the long-term,” said Sandra Stuart, Chief Operating Officer, HSBC Bank Canada. “We are very pleased to support Enactus Canada’s exciting program focused on developing and nurturing the talents of Canada’s emerging female leaders.”
The HSBC Woman Leader of Tomorrow Award is designed to recognize, celebrate and honour female university and college students – on a regional and national level – who exemplify success and inspire their peers, community and country through entrepreneurial leadership.
”To be named HSBC Woman Leader of Tomorrow is quite an honour,” says Gill, “Receiving this award HSBC and Enactus Canada makes me even more determined to work harder on the fundamentally important issues facing girls today.”
Stephanie Gill is one of six regional award winners from across Canada who will travel to the 2013 Enactus Canada National Exposition taking place in Toronto in May in the hopes of being named the national 2013 HSBC Woman Leader of Tomorrow.
The top 50 award applicants from across the country will also be invited to attend the exclusive “HSBC Women’s Leadership Forum” to be held at the 2013 Enactus Canada National Exposition from May 6-8th in Toronto. This annual forum will bring together the top entrepreneurial female leaders of today and tomorrow to dialogue and find solutions to Canada’s social, economic and environmental issues.
