Students from Atlantic Canada Recognized for Promoting Entrepreneurial Growth in Regional Competition
(Halifax) March 19, 2019: Students at St. Mary’s University and Memorial University have been named 2019 TD Entrepreneurship Challenge Champions by Canada’s largest experiential learning platform, Enactus Canada, and program supporter Canadian Western Bank. Both teams will now move on to the national level of competition taking place May 8, 2019 at the Enactus Canada National Exposition in Vancouver.
Students at Saint Mary’s University have developed a social enterprise that reduces waste at restaurants and farms and restaurants by challenging stakeholders to look at food and food waste differently and diverted over 53,000 lbs of food from entering landfills. At Memorial University, students created Remote Ctrl to tackle the digital divide in rural Newfoundland. By partnering local entrepreneurs with youth trained in digital marketing, this project helped improve the digital footprint of local business businesses, while providing youth with the skills needed to become entrepreneurs.

The TD Entrepreneurship Challenge is a national competition empowering post-secondary students to develop and deliver projects that teach entrepreneurial skills to aspiring and existing entrepreneurs. Since 2007, 17,048 students have delivered over 2,191 entrepreneurship projects, exposing 114,899 people to entrepreneurship as a viable career path.
Student teams demonstrated the impact of their entrepreneurial projects to panels of business executives on March 18 in Halifax as part of the Enactus Canada Regional Exposition – Atlantic Canada.
Enactus Memorial and Enactus Saint Mary’s will now move on to the national level of competition taking place May 8, 2019 at the 2019 Enactus Canada National Exposition in Vancouver.
