(TORONTO) 15 May 2018: Memorial University of Newfoundland students are empowering transitioning Canadian Forces members through an entrepreneurial training program on four university campuses.

Enactus Memorial has been named the 2018 Capital One® Financial Education Challenge National Champion by this country’s largest student leadership development organization, Enactus Canada, and proud supporter Capital One® Canada. The national competition took place at the 2018 Enactus Canada National Exposition in Toronto.

Enactus Memorial has successfully operated Prince’s Operation Entrepreneur for 10 consecutive years and has provided 20 veterans with entrepreneurial training and businesses launched through the program have generated over $2M in revenue this year alone.

The Capital One® Financial Education Challenge is a national competition empowering post-secondary students to develop and deliver projects that will educate Canadians on how to make informed and positive financial decisions that will ultimately improve their quality of life.  Since 2011, this challenge has engaged 7,840 students across the country, resulting in 744 financial education outreach projects, and directly impacting the financial futures 84,945 people.

“Financial literacy strengthens communities and empowers individuals to take control of their financial futures. Enactus Memorial has done an outstanding job making these skills available to veterans,” said Nicole Almond, Enactus Canada President.

The 2018 Enactus Canada National Exposition unites 1,500 delegates including the country’s brightest university and college students, academic professionals and top Canadian CEOs to enable progress by supporting entrepreneurial action through competition, recognition and education.
