(TORONTO) May 12, 2022 – The Enactus student team at Wilfrid Laurier University created an initiative to support individuals with developmental disabilities and teach them proper financial education practices.

The Enactus Wilfrid Laurier University team has been named 2022 CWB Financial Education Challenge National Champion by Canada’s largest experiential learning platform, Enactus Canada, and program supporter Canadian Western Bank (CWB).

“Congratulations to Enactus Laurier for making such an incredible impact with Mighty Hawks,” said Nicole Almond, President of Enactus Canada. “Financial literacy is fundamental to sustaining a financially-secure and more stable future.”

This year, Mighty Hawks has educated over 100 people with developmental disabilities on financial literacy.

“Canadian Western Bank is proud of the efforts the Enactus students are undertaking to improve financial literacy in our communities,” said Patrick Gallagher, Vice President, Strategy at Canadian Western Bank. “We believe all Canadians should have equal opportunity to thrive and the thoughtful work Enactus students are doing to help individuals achieve prosperity, through financial empowerment, is making a tremendous impact. Their diverse and inclusive approach will contribute to a stronger Canadian economy.”

The CWB Financial Education Challenge empowers Enactus teams to identify, create and deliver projects that address the specific and unique financial education needs and opportunities in their communities. Over the past three years, this challenge has engaged 2,668 students across the country, resulting in 230 financial education outreach projects, and directly impacting the financial futures of 31,387 people.

Student teams demonstrated the impact of their financial education projects to panels of business executives as part of the Enactus Canada National Exposition.

The Enactus Canada National Exposition unites hundreds of delegates including the country’s brightest university and college students, academic professionals and top Canadian CEOs to enable progress by supporting entrepreneurial action through competition, recognition and education.
