LAMBTON COLLEGE WINS 2ND PRIZE AT GLOBAL ENTREPRENEURIAL COMPETITION FOR PROMOTING FOOD SECURITY, HEALTHCARE AND ALTERNATIVE ENERGY IN RURAL ZAMBIA
(San Jose, CA) September 20, 2019 – The Enactus Canada team from Lambton College was named Enactus World Cup 2019 runner-up last night and awarded $30,000 USD.
The winners from Egypt at Cairo University and the runners-up from Enactus United States at Brigham Young University-Hawaii, Enactus Germany at University of Mannheim also earned prize monies.
“These NextGen leaders demonstrated entrepreneurial action with projects and businesses that create immense, collective impact around the world,” said Rachael Jarosh, President and CEO, Enactus.
The championship ceremony took center stage as the week of action at Enactus World Cup wrapped up. The signature event for Enactus, a global non-profit with more than 72,000 student members from 37 countries across 1,700 university campuses, included three days of competition, collaboration and learning with more than 2,000 business leaders, students, alumni and faculty from around the globe.
“I could not be any prouder of the work our team did this year and the flawless performance they gave in the finals today. I have so much pride in this team” said Jon Milos, faculty advisor for the finalist team.
The team developed Project One Seed over six years working with people living in Zambia, Africa, to achieve their goals: food security, health care, clean water, education, alternative energies, and to build a local economy. In the rural villages in Zambia, there is no electricity or running water, and 71 per cent of people are unable to meet their minimum daily nutritional needs. One Seed uses entrepreneurial action to improve lives by first improving their traditional farming techniques, now that the Zambians can produce enough food and have disposable income.
The organization also announced today that the Enactus World Cup will take place in Utrecht, Netherlands in 2020.
