(TORONTO) May 10, 2022: Students from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) were recognized today at the 2022 Enactus Canada National Exposition Opening Ceremony, where they won the title, Scotiabank Climate Action Project Accelerator Best Project, for Somi
Somi is a personal care brand focused on providing natural and sustainable cosmetic products. Their collection of shampoo, conditioner and body wash bars are also produced without the use of water and or palm oil. This year, the team generated over $14,000 in sales, eliminating the need for 3,040 plastic bottles, and diverting 64kg of waste.
“It is truly inspiring to see the ideas and innovations presented by the students participating in the Scotiabank Climate Action Project Accelerator,” said Maria Saros, Vice President and Global Head Social Impact at Scotiabank. “Their efforts demonstrate a determination to help tackle the impacts of climate change by transitioning to a low-carbon, more resilient future.”
The Scotiabank Climate Action Project Accelerator is designed to empower Enactus teams with the resources needed to identify, create and deliver projects that teach and empower others to tackle climate change and its impacts.
The Enactus Canada National Exposition unites hundreds of delegates including the country’s brightest university and college students, academic professionals and top Canadian CEOs to enable progress by supporting entrepreneurial action through competition, recognition and education.
