Student team earns 2014 national recognition for efforts to assist young athletes in Calgary.

CALGARY, AB (April 28, 2014) – The University of Calgary has been awarded the 2014 Genworth Canada Financial Education Project Fund Best Project by this country’s largest student leadership development organization, Enactus Canada, and proud supporter Genworth Canada. The award presentation took place at the 2014 Enactus Canada National Exposition today in Calgary.

The University of Calgary’s new financial education program called Dynamics improves the quality of life for student athletes through support systems and a new method for generating their own sponsorship opportunities. As well, because of the Genworth Canada grant, Dynamics was able to provide two athletes with a $500 prize for their involvement in the program and dedication of themselves to their sport.

“The Enactus program aligns perfectly with Genworth Canada’s commitment to promote financial education”, says Anita Booth, Community Relations Leader for Genworth Canada. “The dedication from these young adults is incredible and inspiring. Such passion and professionalism was demonstrated with every entry which made it difficult to land on one winner.”

The Genworth Canada Financial Education Project Fund was designed to empower student teams with the skills and resources to strengthen the financial well-being of individuals and communities across Canada.

“Financial education is a growing issue across the country and we are proud to recognize the Enactus team at the University of Calgary for their work to empower up and coming athletes,” said Nicole Almond, Enactus Canada president. “With the support of corporate partners like Genworth Canada, our students are demonstrating how financial education can make a difference in the lives of Canadians.”

The Genworth Canada Financial Education Project Fund Best Project was awarded at the 2014 Enactus Canada National Exposition, where more than 1,200 delegates including the country’s brightest university and college students, academic professionals and top Canadian CEOs came together to transform lives and shape a better, more sustainable world.
