Enactus - Central Regional 2014-297TORONTO, ONTARIO (March 17, 2014) – Laura Douglas, student at Wilfrid Laurier University, received the 2014 HSBC Woman Leader of Tomorrow Award for Central Canada from this country’s largest student leadership development organization, Enactus Canada, and proud program supporter, HSBC Bank Canada. The award presentation took place at the 2014 Enactus Canada Regional Exposition on March 14 in Toronto.

Laura is a natural leader, having helped launch Enactus Laurier projects focused on collecting and recycling electronic waste from local businesses.

Learning from her Tanzanian teammate, she is also helping develop holistic solutions to improve the lives of a small community in Tanzania and she sits on the Board of Directors for a local leadership development organization encouraging individual in the community to achieve their highest potential.

“At HSBC we believe that leaders are developed over the long-term, and that early encouragement and recognition can make a world of difference,” said Sandra Stuart, Chief Operating Officer, HSBC Bank Canada. “For this reason we are very pleased to support Enactus Canada’s exciting program focused on the development of Canada’s emerging female leaders.”

The HSBC Woman Leader of Tomorrow Award is designed to recognize, celebrate and honour female university and college students – on a regional and national level – who exemplify success and inspire their peers, community and country through entrepreneurial leadership.

Laura is one of six regional award winners from across Canada who will travel to the 2014 Enactus Canada National Exposition taking place in Calgary in April in the hopes of being named the national 2014 HSBC Woman Leader of Tomorrow.

The top 50 award applicants from across the country will also be invited to attend the exclusive HSBC Women’s Leadership Forum to be held at the 2014 Enactus Canada National Exposition. This annual forum will bring together the top entrepreneurial female leaders of today and tomorrow to dialogue and find solutions to Canada’s social, economic and environmental issues.
