Student team earns 2013 national title for efforts to help end the cycle of hunger
TORONTO, ON (May 6, 2013) – Okanagan College has been named the 2013 Help Hunger Disappear® Challenge National Champion by national charitable organization Enactus Canada and proud supporter Campbell Company of Canada. The awards presentation took place at the 2013 Enactus Canada National Exposition today in Toronto.
The Enactus team from Okanagan College was again victorious because of their relentless pursuit to support those in need in their community.
In addition to raising a significant donation of over 54,000 pounds of food, the team successfully implemented four key projects that help to deliver meaningful solutions and impact to those they touch including MOMentum, Instill Life, Dollars & Sense and Farm Bag Fundraiser.
“Once again, Enactus students from across Canada did an extraordinary job at finding vibrant and innovative ways to address the issue of hunger in the Campbell’s® Help Hunger Disappear Challenge in total collecting over 240,000 pounds in donations,” said Mark Childs, Vice President of Marketing, Campbell Company of Canada. “The Enactus Okanagan College team stood out again this year for their continued teamwork and commitment to lasting hunger solutions in their community. Their boundless energy, passion and creativity continue to impress – they are truly role models for us all! All of the 30 teams who participated in this initiative have inspired us in our efforts to help alleviate hunger in Canada, impacting the lives of 40,000 Canadians with over 10,000 volunteer hours.”
By supporting the Help Hunger Disappear Challenge, the Campbell Canada has engaged students across the country in a powerful movement to build a foundation for hunger support through innovative initiatives and awareness generation.
“The Enactus Okanagan College team was recognized for their innovative solutions to, and raising awareness around, the important cause of hunger in our communities,” said Nicole Almond, Enactus Canada president. “These students are demonstrating how, with hard work and determination, people can make a difference and provide hunger relief in communities across Canada.”
The Help Hunger Disappear Challenge is in its fourth year in Canada. The National Champion was named at the 2013 Enactus Canada National Exposition , where more than 1,200 delegates including the country’s brightest university and college students, academic professionals and top Canadian CEOs came together to transform lives and shape a better, more sustainable world.
