Student team earns national recognition for advancing the economic, social and environmental health of Canada through innovative community projects.
TORONTO, ONTARIO (May 11, 2015): The Enactus team at Ryerson University has received the national title, 3M Canada Problem Solving Project Partnership Best Project, for their community development project, Growing North.
Growing North aims to build a geodesic greenhouse dome to allow communities in northern Canada to grow their own food, which has the potential to feed up to 53% of their target community.
These outcomes were rewarded on Monday, May 11 at the 2015 Enactus Canada National Exposition by this country’s largest student leadership development organization, Enactus Canada and project partner, 3M Canada.
The 3M Canada Problem Solving Project Partnership, new this year, is designed to empower Enactus teams with the resources needed to identify, create and deliver truly innovative projects that address the specific and unique needs and opportunities within Canada.
“Enactus students are problem solvers and, with partners like 3M, are ready to challenge the status quo for the benefit of social good,” said Nicole Almond, president of Enactus Canada. “Ryerson University has much to be proud of today and we are pleased to share with Canada the progressive change they have made in their local community.”
Enactus Ryerson is a group of innovative students, working together towards one goal, to solve northern Canada’s food security problems and create positive change.
The 3M Canada Problem Solving Project Partnership was awarded at the 2015 Enactus Canada National Exposition, where more than 1,200 delegates including the country’s brightest university and college students, academic professionals and top Canadian CEOs came together to transform lives and shape a better, more sustainable world.
