HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA (February 11, 2014) – Alex MacLean, owner of East Coast Lifestyle Clothing Incorporated and full-time student at Acadia University, has been named Nova Scotia’s 2014 Student Entrepreneur Provincial Champion. Provincial Champions coast to coast were named by this country’s largest student leadership development organization, Enactus Canada, and proud program supporter, the John Dobson Foundation as part of the Student Entrepreneur National Competition.
MacLean received the title of Student Entrepreneur Provincial Champion because of his ability to turn a fun idea into a hugely profitable business, which in turn allows him to give back to homeless shelters and organizations for disabled children in his community. East Coast Lifestyle was a brand started through a classroom project with the goal of selling 30 hoodies. After 10 months in operation over 250,000 products have been sold and the brand is worn by over 60 international celebrities including Sidney Crosby, Classified, Nathan MacKinnon and Kim Coates.
MacLean will showcase his business and personal accomplishments as an entrepreneur at the Enactus Canada Regional Exposition – Atlantic Canada in Halifax on March 8, where he will compete for the title of Regional Champion.
“Alex is the epitome of a young entrepreneur because he is so passionate about his business,” explains Enactus Canada president Nicole Almond. “This entrepreneurial spirit is what built this country and we want to encourage and celebrate this in students across Canada.”
MacLean will compete against three other Student Entrepreneur Provincial Champions from Atlantic Canada for the regional title and the chance to move on to the 2014 Enactus Canada National Exposition in Calgary, Alberta taking place April 28-30. The National Champion will receive a $10,000 cash prize and take home the John Dobson Cup.
