Last month we hosted our annual Collaboration Summit series in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Montreal and Halifax with support from our donor the McCall MacBain Foundation. Enactus student team leaders participated in fireside chats with guest speakers and engaged with other student leaders to connect, collaborate, and gain insights about leadership.
At each summit a local leader in the sustainability, social entrepreneurship, and community development space shared unique perspectives on leadership. Student leaders were also engaged in problem-solving using design thinking methods.
Vancouver
Visionary sustainability executive, Kim Hallwood, led the fireside chat with Enactus Student leaders at University British Columbia – Vancouver campus. Kim shared her experience and insights with the leaders and stressed the importance of succession planning and leading a team.
Toronto
Hosted at Massey College at the University of Toronto, Enactus Alumna and board member, Nuha Siddiqui, CEO & co-founder of erthos®, led a lively discussion and fireside chat with over 30 Enactus student leaders. Nuha shared her personal experience of leading an Enactus project from concept to success, the importance of building a diverse team to lend their expertise to the project and guiding her team through the business transformation and growth.
Halifax
Accomplished Enactus Alumni, Ciaro Moxey, led the fireside chat with the student leaders. Ciaro shared his perspectives around his work in the change-making space in sustainability, equity, and health. Drawing on his experience with expanding the Enactus Saint Mary’s University Square Roots project, token program, Ciaro provided tangible advice to the student leaders in attendance.
Calgary
Dr. Mike Lickers is a well-known Mohawk educator from Six Nations of the Grand River and shared his experiences with students around leadership, community development, and work with Indigenous peoples. Building from Thomas King’s famous quote “The truth about stories is, that’s all we are”, Dr. Lickers shared insight and advice on the importance of building rapport with those we meet throughout our lives, and why the journey we take in creating our stories is just as important as the final result.
Montreal
Ondine Hogeboom led the fireside chat for our student leaders in Montreal and shared her impressive leadership background. From starting seven social enterprises to her leadership and coaching work with entrepreneurs, Ondine’s insights led to an inspiring conversation that had students critically thinking about what it truly means to be a leader.
Thank you to all of the students who attended these events and our guest speakers. We hope these opportunities to collaborate added some inspiration and insights to support your teams and projects for this year.
We are grateful to the McCall MacBain Foundation who generously supports our annual Collaboration Summit activities.
