Dorothy NgBright-eyed and bushy-tailed, I nervously scooted through the hallways of Simon Fraser University (SFU) during Clubs Day. I was slightly overwhelmed by the student organizations on campus but very eager to get involved in my first year of university.

I joined Enactus in Fall 2013 as an Education Presenter/Coordinator for Banner Bags, where I spoke to high school students on the importance of environmental sustainability. As a team, we presented to over 1000 students in the 2013-14 year!

In this role, I had the opportunity to hone my presentation and teamwork skills while educating youth. Subsequently, I fell in love with the organization and I made the decision to join the 2014-15 Enactus SFU Executive Team as the Director of Marketing.

As a student majoring in Political Science, I never thought I would find myself in a marketing role. I had experience managing social media for my personal accounts but none in a formal role. Enactus has given me the opportunity to apply self-taught skills, such as social media and personal branding, in organizational settings. I am proud to say that I am now considering a career in Communications or Marketing. Prior to this, I was deadset on becoming a lawyer or climbing the corporate ladder.

The best part about my Enactus experience? I am only in my second year of university so my Enactus journey has just begun. I cannot wait to see where it will take me in the future.

If you are on the fence about joining the Enactus chapter at your institution, I highly recommend giving it a shot. Regardless of your role, it will allow you to develop yourself personally and professionally while making a positive impact in the community. What more could one ask for?
