Student team earns 2014 national recognition for empowering individuals, communities and the planet
CALGARY, AB (April 30, 2014) – Concordia University has been awarded the 2014 Tim Hortons Making a True Difference Project Fund Best Project by this country’s largest student leadership development organization, Enactus Canada, and proud supporter Tim Hortons. The award presentation took place at the 2014 Enactus Canada National Exposition today in Calgary.
Eco Youth focuses on the lack of sustainability education in local youth centres and is designed to address the feeling of social isolation and lack of confidence experienced by many youths, particularly that of first generation immigrants. This year alone the team empowered 20 new Canadian teens.
“The Enactus program aligns well with Tim Horton’s commitment to promote Making a True Difference in communities across Canada”, says David Clanachan, Chief Operating Officer, Tim Horton’s. “It is inspiring that the next generation of Canadian leaders is taking a holistic approach to making a difference in lives of people in their local communities.”
The Tim Hortons Making a True Difference Project Fund was designed to empower Enactus teams with the resources needed to identify, create and deliver projects that address the specific and unique needs and opportunities in their communities in a holistic way.
“We are proud to recognize the Enactus Concordia team for their work to empower young new Canadians,” said Nicole Almond, Enactus Canada president. “With the support of corporate partners like Tim Hortons, our students are demonstrating how change can be realized when people are committed to making a true difference.”
The Tim Hortons Making a True Difference Project Fund Best Project was awarded at the 2014 Enactus Canada National Exposition , where more than 1,200 delegates including the country’s brightest university and college students, academic professionals and top Canadian CEOs came together to transform lives and shape a better, more sustainable world.
