(TORONTO, ON) May 15, 2024 – Students from Saint Mary’s University have been named the 2024 TD Entrepreneurship Challenge National Champions. The winning team was selected by Canada’s largest experiential learning platform, Enactus Canada, and program supporter TD Bank Group.

Square Roots solves a two-part problem through eliminating food waste by selling seconds (imperfect) produce which would otherwise go to waste. We sell the produce to those with limited access to affordable food through community champions.

“Entrepreneurs are the foundation of the Canadian economy” said Catherine Fowler, President and CEO of Enactus Canada. “The long-standing, continued support from TD Bank Group has enabled Enactus students to play a key role in the long-term economic success of thousands of Canadians through entrepreneurial action.”

“Congratulations to Enactus students from Saint Mary’s University on being named the 2024 TD Entrepreneurship Challenge National Champions for their project, Square Roots,” said TD Bank Group. “As part of our corporate citizenship platform, the TD Ready Commitment, we are proud to support Enactus Canada in empowering a new generation of entrepreneurial leaders who are passionate about building a more inclusive and sustainable tomorrow. Through their projects and ventures, Enactus next-gen leaders are helping open doors to new opportunities geared towards improving income stability across the country.”

The TD Entrepreneurship Challenge is a national competition empowering post-secondary students to develop and deliver projects that teach entrepreneurial skills to aspiring and existing entrepreneurs. TD has been proud to be a supporter of this challenge since 2007.

Through programs like this, designed to empower individuals with various abilities to ones that aim to accelerate economic growth in rural areas, students across Canada are proving that entrepreneurial action can positively impact the national economic, social, and environmental landscape.

Student teams demonstrated the impact of their entrepreneurship initiatives to panels of business executives today at the Enactus Canada National Exposition, taking place May 14-16 in Toronto, Ontario.

The annual three-day event unites hundreds of delegates – including the country’s brightest university and college students, academic professionals, and top Canadian CEOs to enable progress by supporting entrepreneurial action through competition, recognition, and education.
