Student team earns 2014 national recognition for changing individual lives through entrepreneurship

CALGARY, AB (April 28, 2014): The Enactus team at the University of Calgary is promoting student entrepreneurship in Calgary through The PUSH Network, a resource for student entrepreneurs with a goal inspiring entrepreneurship among students, and to help build and grow student businesses.

With the launch of seven new start-ups, and increased existing revenues, PUSH businesses are on track to deliver revenues of $252,000 for 2014 and are planning to hire eight part-time employees in addition to their current 12 employees (part-time and full-time).

These outcomes were rewarded on Monday, April 28th at the 2014 Enactus Canada National Exposition, where the Enactus University of Calgary team took home the title of BDC Entrepreneurs First Project Fund Best Project.

“BDC is proud to contribute to the emergence of a new generation of business leaders,” said Michel Bergeron, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Public Affairs at BDC. “The Enactus program provides the participants with a unique opportunity to showcase their talents and creativity.  Every year we take pride in mentoring students and help them refine business projects that respond to the needs of their local communities.”

The BDC Entrepreneurs First Project Fund, launched in 2011, is designed to empower Enactus teams with the skills and resources to make a meaningful difference in their communities through entrepreneurship.

“Enactus students are transforming lives and shaping a better world. These opportunities wouldn’t exist without the support of corporate partners like BDC,” said Nicole Almond, president of Enactus Canada. “The University of Calgary has much to be proud of today and we are pleased to share with Canada the fabulous work they are doing in their local community.”

The Enactus team at the University of Calgary is a group of dedicated students, working together towards one goal, to make Calgary a better place through entrepreneurship.

The BDC Entrepreneurs First Project Fund Best Project was awarded at the 2014 Enactus Canada National Exposition, where more than 1,200 delegates including the country’s brightest university and college students, academic professionals and top Canadian CEOs came together to transform lives and shape a better, more sustainable world.
