(TORONTO) May 10, 2022: A team of students from Western University created a 24-hour impact-driven hackathon that challenges students from diverse backgrounds to ideate, design and pitch technical venture solutions focused on sustainability and accessibility.

The Enactus Western University team won the 2022 HSBC Entrepreneurship Project Accelerator Best Project award and were recognized today at the 2022 Enactus Canada National Exposition Opening Ceremony.

More than 100 eHacks competitors pitched their product to industry professionals, gaining valuable connections, in addition to, design thinking, coding, finance and public speaking skills. Over 150 aspiring entrepreneurs were directly impacted and one new business launched thanks to Western’s program.

Empowering young leaders is crucial to creating a sustainable, inclusive future,” says Erin Rogers, Head of Marketing, HSBC Bank Canada. “The Western University’s Enactus team’s work is an inspiring example of how the next generation is poised to lead the way in building this future.”

The HSBC Entrepreneurship Project Accelerator, launched in 2018, is designed to empower Enactus teams with the resources needed to identify, create and deliver projects that empower aspiring and existing entrepreneurs to set up or grow their businesses through entrepreneurship training and support, and empower Canadians to develop employment skills.

The Enactus Canada National Exposition unites hundreds of delegates including the country’s brightest university and college students, academic professionals and top Canadian CEOs to enable progress by supporting entrepreneurial action through competition, recognition and education.
