(TORONTOMay 10 2021: Students from Wilfrid Laurier University – Waterloo have created an initiative that is committed to supporting Canadians in their efforts to becoming employed by helping individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities to become independent and break through barriers through their social enterprise, Mighty Hawks 

Their efforts were recognized on May 10th at the 2021 Enactus Canada National Exposition Opening Ceremony, where the Enactus team from Wilfrid Laurier University – Waterloo won the award for the Unilever Recognizing Abilities Project Accelerator Best Project for Mighty Hawks. 

Over 75 Enactus students from the Wilfrid Laurier University team were engaged to contribute to this meaningful project. Might Hawks ahs impacted close to 200 people this year, with 28 people with disabilities gaining employment and 92 people with disabilities receiving workplace readiness training and gaining access to resources, tools and technology that can help increase their standard of living.

The Unilever Recognizing Abilities Project Accelerator is designed to empower Enactus teams with the resources needed to identify, create and deliver projects that empower people with disabilities, enabling them to participate fully in society without barriers. 

The Enactus Canada National Exposition unites 1,500 delegates including the country’s brightest university and college students, academic professionals and top Canadian CEOs to enable progress by supporting entrepreneurial action through competition, recognition and education.
