In honour of International Women’s Day, Enactus Canada is proud to recognize the work of our Enactus teams who are working to empower women around Canada to live better lives.
City Thrive – Enactus Windsor
City Thrive, a program created by Enactus Windsor, is aimed at empowering individuals living on social assistance to take control of their lives by starting their own business.
In only its pilot year, this program has already helped 10 women living on social assistance start their own business.
In fact, two of these women have successfully cut their ties with the welfare system and are now making enough income to support themselves and their families.
Girl Revolution – Enactus Saint Mary’s
Girl Revolution is a two-part project that empowers girls by increasing their confidence and building their self-esteem.
The first part of the project explores the social issues faced by girls, offering a series of workshops on such topics as trust, creative expression, healthy relationships, anti-racism and violence prevention.
In the second half of the project, the girls are divided into small groups and asked to identify a social issue they would like to help change. Members of the Enactus Saint Mary’s University team work with the girls to help them develop their chosen project.
Girl Revolution ends with a girl “action” day, when the girls deliver their projects to the community.
Project Manager, Stephanie Gill, was recently awarded the HSBC Woman Leader of the Year Award at the Enactus Canada Regional Exposition in Halifax.
Adsum House Project – Enactus Dalhousie
Enactus Dalhousie has partnered with Adsum House, a local non-profit devoted to reducing homelessness and promoting independent living for youth, women and children. The Enactus Dalhousie team has developed a program focused on teaching participants financial education and entrepreneurial skills.
For their efforts, the team was recognized as the first-runner up in the TD Entrepreneurial Challenge at the Enactus Regional Exposition in Halifax!
Through projects like the one they are running with Adsum House, Enactus Dalhousie is working to empower women in their community.
