Hilary Tong found out about an exciting new opportunity with the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) at the Enactus Canada National Exposition. One week later, she was on the job.
Hilary first spoke with a BDC representative at the Donor Information and Career Opportunity Fair at the National Exposition in Toronto. Hilary introduced herself and showed a member of the BDC Human Resources team her resume; she had exactly what they were looking for in the role of Summer Analyst.
BDC did a screening interview on the spot and the next morning, Hilary got a call. She had a formal interview a week after the Enactus Canada National Exposition and was offered the position that same day. The following Monday, she started working.
As a Summer Analyst with BDC, Hilary job-shadowed Client Relationship Officers and Account Managers writing all documents associated with the loan, working with professionals and meeting with clients. Her favourite part of the job was being able to combine her love for numbers with her love for entrepreneurship.
“BDC is very client centric and is the only bank dedicated exclusively to entrepreneurship in Canada. This objective is very similar to what we do at Enactus,” explains the fourth year student at Enactus Western University. “When I found out about BDC and what they do, I knew I wanted to work there.”
The internship exceeded Hilary’s expectations. It gave her the real world work setting that she wanted, and she thanks Enactus for the opportunity – and the skills to prepare her for it.
“Enactus provides you with all the core skills that recruiters are looking for, and these skills are transferable for any career path,” says Hilary. “Enactus also provides the network you need to get you a step ahead of your classmates and peers.”
Hilary encourages Enactus students to participate in all of the career development opportunities offered by Enactus Canada. After all, it jump-started her career.
