Chantelle BuffieCALGARY (March 11, 2013) – Chantelle Buffie, student at the Simon Fraser University, received the 2013 HSBC Woman Leader of Tomorrow Award for Western Canada from national charitable organization Enactus Canada and proud sponsor HSBC Bank Canada. The award presentation took place at the 2013 Enactus Canada Regional Exposition on March 8 in Calgary.

Armed with a self-described private sector drive and a public sector heart, Buffie serves as a mentor to youth at her university and seeks to empower women in her community. She co-founded her own social enterprise, Fushion Kitchen, a platform for immigrant women to gain Canadian work experience and confidence through cooking classes.

“At HSBC we believe that the strongest leaders are developed over the long-term,” said Sandra Stuart, Chief Operating Officer, HSBC Bank Canada. “We are very pleased to support Enactus Canada’s exciting program focused on developing and nurturing the talents of Canada’s emerging female leaders.”

The HSBC Woman Leader of Tomorrow Award is designed to recognize, celebrate and honour female university and college students – on a regional and national level – who exemplify success and inspire their peers, community and country through entrepreneurial leadership.

“I want to thank HSBC and Enactus Canada for this honour,” says Buffie, “It is refreshing to see a major corporation and national charity come together to celebrate female leaders who have a strong entrepreneurial spirit and social conscience.”

Chantelle Buffie is one of six regional award winners from across Canada who will travel to the 2013 Enactus Canada National Exposition taking place in Toronto in May in the hopes of being named the national 2013 HSBC Woman Leader of Tomorrow.

The top 50 award applicants from across the country will also be invited to attend the exclusive “HSBC Women’s Leadership Forum” to be held at the 2013 Enactus Canada National Exposition from May 6-8th in Toronto. This annual forum will bring together the top entrepreneurial female leaders of today and tomorrow to dialogue and find solutions to Canada’s social, economic and environmental issues.
