VANCOUVER, BC (May 9, 2017) – Students from the University of Calgary are empowering women to run their own businesses by teaching them the basics of accounting, marketing, creating a business plan and acquiring funding. This year, 14 women graduated from the program entitled Empower and seven new businesses launched.

The Enactus University of Calgary team was awarded the 2017 Enactus Women’s Economic Empowerment Project Accelerator Best Project award by this country’s largest student leadership development organization Enactus Canada and proud supporter Walmart. The award presentation took place at the 2017 Enactus Canada National Exposition today in Vancouver.

“Walmart is committed to supporting women’s empowerment around the world. We congratulate University of Calgary for their impressive and innovative project that can accelerate economic empowerment for women entrepreneurs.” said Susan Muigai, EVP HR, Walmart Canada. “Since launching this partnership with Enactus Canada in 2012, we continue to be impressed and inspired by the incredible work Enactus students are doing in their local communities and around the world to benefit others.”
